The peaks on the southeast border of Anyuan County are collectively called Sanbai Mountain. It is the birthplace of the Dongjiang River, the origin of drinking water for residents in Guangdong and Hong Kong, and the unique tourist resort in China that is pretty meaningful to compatriots in Hong Kong for its kindness of water supply. It has been honored as the State-level Scenic Area, the National Forest Park, the AAAAA National Tourist Attraction, and the Remembering Past Kindness·National Educational Base for Hong Kong Youths, and has been listed in the first batch of National Ecological Education Demonstration Bases for the Protection of Mother River.
With a core area of 36 square kilometers, the scenic area covers 197 square kilometers and has five major scenic spots, including Fu’ao Lake, Jiuqu Stream, Dongfeng Lake, Yangtian Lake and Jianfengbi. Sanbai Mountain has a forest coverage rate of 98% and is rich in animal and plant resources. There are 1,702 species of 271 families of higher plants in Sanbai Mountain, including more than 300 species of rare plants, and there also are 1,361 species of wild animals, including 38 national key protected species of higher animals. Therefore, Sanbai Mountain is a precious gene pool in southern China. The average annual temperature of Sanbai Mountain is 15.1℃, and the highest value of negative oxygen ions in its air is 100,000/cm3, so it is known as the Best Summer Resort and the Natural Oxygen Bar.
